If you have carpeting, select a robot vacuum that has a high score for carpet and rug ability to maneuver and pick up. A lot of models do a great job of picking up dust that has been embedded in carpets with a low pile and a few do a good job of picking up heavier debris such as orzo pasta, metal screws and pet hair. It can be set to only mop. We were impressed by its ability to navigate on floors with no flooring and carpets. The Combo i5 has a long time to run and excellent path planning for a device of this size.

If you want a more high-tech model, consider the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Self-Empty Robot Vacuum & Mop. It comes with a large charging dock that can go months without needing to be emptied and has impressive navigation skills and auto-emptying on both carpets and floors. It also has a smart mapping system, and can be set to run only during specific times (a beneficial feature to keep mischievous children and dextrous animals from running wild). The Shark has less powerful suction than other robot vacuum/mop combos but it's effective in removing hair and pet hair. It is the best floor vacuum robot value of our top picks.

Best for Hard Flooring

They are capable of removing crumbs and dust, but they aren't able to handle pet hair and other large debris. The best two-in-one robots combine a vacuum and a mop and take care of the entire chore in one pass. Its sensors assist it in avoiding staircases and other hazards, so you don't have to be worried about the bot plummeting down the stairs and breaking your hardwood.

When you need mops, the Eufy S1 Pro is designed to actually wash hardwood floors using downward pressure rather than just wipe them to remove dust and dirt. The mop pads that are reusable reduce the amount of waste and reduce the spread of germs, and can be cleaned in the docking station to save you time. The mop pads can also be washed and dried to stop the spread of mold.

A few years ago, robot vacuums went through significant changes.
